St. Martin de Porres (1579–1639) was a Dominican lay brother from Lima, Peru, renowned for his humility, compassion, and lifelong service to the poor, the sick, and the forgotten. Born to a Spanish father and a mother of African descent, he faced discrimination early in life, yet responded with patience, faith, and selfless love.

Known as a healer and man of deep prayer, he devoted himself to caring for the suffering and showed remarkable kindness toward animals, seeing all creation as a reflection of God’s mercy.

Canonized in 1962, St. Martin de Porres is honored today as a symbol of peace, equality, and quiet charity, reminding all who visit this memorial park that true holiness is found in humble service and love for all.
